Mangan, Sikkim: A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Mangan in Sikkim on Saturday evening, according to data released by the National Centre for Seismology. The tremor occurred at 8:46 PM IST at a depth of 14 kilometres, with its epicentre located in North Sikkim, a region known for frequent seismic activity.
There were no immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life, officials said. Residents in parts of the district experienced brief shaking, though the impact appeared limited. Local authorities stated that the situation remained normal and under close watch.
Sikkim falls within a high seismic risk zone along the Himalayan belt, making such tremors relatively common. Experts note that while the intensity was low, continued monitoring is essential, as minor earthquakes can sometimes be followed by aftershocks.
