Satashi Pal Para Mahila Brindo Celebrates Seven Year of Durga Puja with a Heartwarming Community Initiative in Jagacha, Howrah

Jagacha, Howrah: The Satashi Pal Para Durga Puja, organised by Mahila Brindo (Women’s Group) in collaboration with Pawan Smriti Star Club at Jagacha, Howrah, is celebrating its third year in 2026. First initiated in 2020, after lock down of COVID 19, the puja reflects the determination and devotion of the elderly women of Satashi Pal Para, who came together to celebrate Durga Puja within their own neighbourhood.

The initiative was born out of a heartfelt concern for elderly women who, due to various health conditions and age-related difficulties, find it challenging to travel to distant pandals to participate in the festivities. The local puja offers them an opportunity to celebrate the festival close to home, ensuring that physical limitations do not prevent them from enjoying the spirit of Durga Puja.

Krishna Porel, president of the organising committee, represents the collective efforts behind this community-driven initiative, while Saraswati Samanta serves as its secretary. With the continued support of Pawan Smriti Star Club, the women’s group has sustained the celebration for seven consecutive years, demonstrating the importance of community participation, inclusivity and respect for senior citizens.

The Durga Puja was inaugurated by MLA Rudranil Ghosh, marking a special occasion for the residents of Jagacha. The celebration stands as a meaningful example of how local initiatives can bring people together while addressing the needs of elderly community members. Beyond religious observance, the Satashi Pal Para Durga Puja highlights the values of compassion, togetherness and the enduring spirit of community-led celebrations.
