SIYASAT 2026: Two Days of Dialogue, Debate and Democratic Spirit | Organized by he Political Science Society, ZHDC(Evening), Univ. of Delhi - Report of Pratibimb

By : Editor, Pratibimb The corridors of Zakir Husain Delhi College Evening felt especially vibrant on 23 and 25 February 2026 as the Department of Political Science, under the banner of Pratibimb, the Political Science Society, hosted its Annual Academic Fest, SIYASAT 2026. For two days, familiar classrooms transformed into lively spaces filled with ideas, arguments, performances and warm applause.

The fest began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolising the pursuit of knowledge and shared growth. The presence of the Principal, Prof. Bharat Singh, added warmth and encouragement to the inaugural session. Dr. Amreen, Teacher in Charge of the Department of Political Science, along with the Convenor, Dr. Arvind Kumar Mishra, welcomed the gathering and spoke about the vision behind organising Siyasat 2026. Faculty members from various departments also joined, making the opening ceremony feel truly collective. The rendition of the college Kulgeet created a shared sense of belonging among students and teachers alike.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Bharat Singh encouraged students to see such platforms as opportunities for growth rather than mere competition. He appreciated the consistent efforts of Dr. Amreen and Dr. Arvind Kumar Mishra in fostering an academic environment that values dialogue, democratic participation and intellectual courage. His words set a thoughtful and motivating tone for the days ahead.

Day one featured the Quiz, Essay Writing and Debate competitions, conducted simultaneously in different venues across the Science Block and the AV Room. The Quiz tested participants on current affairs, political concepts, constitutional values and general awareness, demanding both accuracy and quick thinking. The Essay Writing competition gave students the space to reflect deeply on social and political themes, presenting structured arguments with originality and clarity.

The Debate competition brought a special energy to the AV Room. Participants argued passionately, offered sharp rebuttals and defended their perspectives with confidence. The atmosphere was charged but respectful, truly reflecting the democratic spirit that Siyasat aims to promote. Throughout the day, Dr. Amreen and Dr. Arvind Kumar Mishra could be seen encouraging participants and ensuring the smooth conduct of events.

The day concluded with the announcement of results and prize distribution. In his remarks, Prof. Bharat Singh congratulated the winners while also acknowledging the courage of every student who stepped forward to participate. He emphasised that the real achievement lay in engaging with ideas and learning through experience. The National Anthem marked the close of a fulfilling and intellectually enriching first day.

The second day carried forward the same enthusiasm with the Open Mic, Speech and Extempore competitions. It began with a graceful dance performance that instantly set an energetic and celebratory mood.
The Open Mic provided students with a free and welcoming space to express themselves through poetry, storytelling, personal reflections and socially relevant themes. The diversity of performances highlighted the creative strength within the student community and was met with genuine appreciation from the audience.

The Speech competition showcased the participants ability to present persuasive and well structured viewpoints on contemporary issues. Their clarity of expression reflected careful preparation and engagement with ongoing debates. The Extempore competition, one of the most challenging segments, required students to think quickly and articulate coherent responses within moments. The composure and spontaneity displayed by the participants spoke volumes about their growing confidence and intellectual agility. Members of the jury also addressed the gathering briefly, motivating students to continue taking part in such academic forums.

The valedictory session was marked by gratitude and recognition. Dr. Amreen, as Teacher in Charge, and Dr. Arvind Kumar Mishra, as Convenor, were felicitated for their leadership and commitment in organising SIYASAT 2026. Core members and volunteers of Pratibimb were acknowledged for their dedication and coordinated efforts. Faculty members from different departments were thanked for their encouragement and support throughout the fest.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Bharat Singh appreciated the collaborative spirit that defined SIYASAT 2026. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the fest a success.
SIYASAT 2026 was not merely a series of competitions. It was a celebration of dialogue, diversity of thought and democratic engagement. Over two days, students did more than compete. They connected, reflected and grew together, reaffirming the college commitment to holistic education where learning thrives through discussion, creativity and collective effort.
