Howrah, West Bengal: A disastrous event happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Howrah Mangla Haat. The massive iron rod fell from the Howrah Haat building trade center, killing two men within seconds. The event took place in a building next to the Howrah Municipal Corporation, which raises big concerns regarding safety issues at construction sites. Howrah City Police said that the victims, Sheikh Irfan and Khokon, were both merchants who had come to the trade center to stock items for the Mangalahat market. There has been welding work going on in the building's stairs since this morning. During the operation, a large iron rod reportedly fell from above and struck the two men standing below. Mr. Chhotu, who saw the disaster, stated that there were many people beneath the building at the time since the owners of the haat sometimes use it for storage.
