Howrah, West Bengal: A disastrous event happened on Tuesday afternoon at the Howrah Mangla Haat. The massive iron rod fell from the Howrah Haat building trade center, killing two men within seconds. The event took place in a building next to the Howrah Municipal Corporation, which raises big concerns regarding safety issues at construction sites.
Howrah City Police said that the victims, Sheikh Irfan and Khokon, were both merchants who had come to the trade center to stock items for the Mangalahat market. There has been welding work going on in the building's stairs since this morning. During the operation, a large iron rod reportedly fell from above and struck the two men standing below.
Mr. Chhotu, who saw the disaster, stated that there were many people beneath the building at the time since the owners of the haat sometimes use it for storage. The accident seriously injured both Irfan and Khokon. They were sent to Howrah State General Hospital right away, where they were declared dead when they got there.
The sudden deaths caused a lot of chaos and sorrow at the site. After getting the news, officers from the Howrah City Police Station went to the scene and started looking into it. Upon inspecting the rooftop, police found iron rods and construction materials scattered across the area.
Police authorities said that the case is being thoroughly looked into and that those responsible would be held accountable after looking at all the facts, including any carelessness or safety breaches.
The tragedy has once again shown how dangerous it is to ignore safety at work, particularly in busy business locations. Families are in mourning, and concerns remain unaddressed.
