ISRO has successfully carried out the launch of Gaganyaan-1, the first uncrewed test flight

Satish Dhawan Space Centre, India: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved another historic milestone with the successful launch of Gaganyaan-1, the first uncrewed test flight under India’s ambitious human spaceflight program.

The launch took place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, with the Gaganyaan spacecraft entering an orbit of 170 x 408 km. This mission is a crucial step in India’s efforts to send humans into space for the first time, aiming for a crewed mission in the near future.

The Gaganyaan-1 mission carried Vyommitra, a humanoid robot developed by ISRO, to simulate crew interactions and monitor onboard systems. The mission will test crucial technologies such as life support, re-entry capabilities, and safety mechanisms, ensuring the success of future manned spaceflights.

“This successful test flight marks a significant milestone for India's space exploration ambitions. The data and insights gathered will be instrumental in shaping the country's first human spaceflight mission,” said an ISRO spokesperson.

India’s Gaganyaan program aims to place astronauts in low Earth orbit for a few days before safely bringing them back. The country joins an elite group of nations with human spaceflight capabilities, reinforcing its position in the global space community.

ISRO has planned multiple abort tests and further uncrewed missions before the final crewed launch, expected in the coming years.

Further updates will be provided as ISRO continues its mission towards human spaceflight.
