The Botanical Survey of India (BSI) celebrated International Yoga Day 2025 with a vibrant “Harit Yoga Session” at the serene AJC Bose Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, based on the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The event highlighted the harmony between wellness, biodiversity, and sustainable living.

Spanning over 270 acres with more than 12,000 plant species, the garden provided an ideal natural setting. The program brought together BSI scientists, staff, students, and citizens in a collaborative celebration of health and nature.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Pratibha Gupta, Director In-Charge of BSI. In her welcome address, she remarked, “Yoga is a bridge between inner peace and outer sustainability. Practicing it amid nature amplifies its benefits and deepens our bond with the Earth.”

BSI Yoga Instructor Leading the Session

Led by certified yoga instructors, participants engaged in asanas, pranayama, and meditation. Practicing amid the garden’s biodiversity enriched the experience and emphasized the message of ecological well-being.

Participants also joined a medicinal plant walk, where experts explained the traditional uses of species like Tulsi, Neem, Brahmi, and Ashwagandha. Informational displays further highlighted the role of these plants in India’s health systems.
