Young Voices Rise Against Plastic: JNU Launches Reporter Challenge 2025
New Delhi, June 18, 2025 — The fight against plastic pollution has found a fresh wave of enthusiasm, and it’s coming straight from the youth. Jawaharlal Nehru University’s EIACP Resource Partner, under the School of Environmental Sciences, has launched the Young Reporter Challenge 2025, a dynamic platform aimed at empowering young changemakers to raise their voices for the environment.
This year's theme, "The Role of Youth in Ending Plastic Pollution,"invites participants to step into the shoes of a reporter and create a powerful 1-minute video that reflects both awareness and action. With plastic pollution continuing to threaten ecosystems, oceans, and human health, the challenge seeks to spotlight the unique power of youth to spark change and spread awareness through digital media.
The contest is open to all aspiring young reporters and changemakers, encouraging creativity, activism, and storytelling. The last date to submit entries is June 29, 2025, giving participants just under two weeks to script, shoot, and share their environmental message. In return, all participants will receive e-certificates, and top entries will be featured, offering a valuable opportunity for national recognition.
By combining social media savvy with environmental advocacy, the challenge promotes a dual goal: educating the public about the dangers of plastic while also cultivating the next generation of environmental journalists. As microplastics seep into the food chain and single-use plastics choke marine life, the youth-driven campaign highlights a critical truth — awareness starts with communication.
Organizers from JNU EIACP (Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme) emphasize that this initiative isn’t just a competition — it’s a movement. By placing cameras and narratives in the hands of young people, the challenge becomes a medium to amplify unheard voices and local stories that reflect the urgency of the global plastic crisis.
