According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened around 8:30 AM, when a speeding private bus, reportedly attempting to overtake another vehicle, lost control and rammed into a Toto. The force of the collision threw the Toto off balance, causing it to overturn. The driver, is not identified yet, sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures.

“I was standing nearby when I saw the bus coming at high speed. It seemed like the driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when he lost control and crashed into the Toto. The impact was severe, and the Toto flipped over,” said Rahul Saha, an eyewitness.

Following the accident, local residents and passersby immediately gathered at the spot, some trying to help the injured while others called the police and emergency services. The police arrived at the scene within 15 minutes and began managing the situation.

A traffic jam ensued as commuters stopped to check the situation. Vehicles remained stranded for over 30 minutes, disrupting the morning rush hour. Police officials cleared the site and restored traffic flow by towing the damaged Toto and dispersing the crowd.

This incident has once again highlighted the issue of rash driving and lack of road discipline in Howrah. Local residents expressed their anger over repeated traffic violations by buses and other commercial vehicles.

“Accidents like these are becoming too common. Private bus drivers often race against each other to get more passengers, putting lives at risk. We demand speed breakers, stricter traffic monitoring, and better enforcement of road safety rules,” said Sukumar Das, a local resident.

Authorities have assured that they will increase police patrols and implement stricter regulations to prevent such accidents in the future.
