Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve, England: A rare species of fungus, known as Microglossum cyanobasis , has been discovered in the UK for the first time at Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve . The find was made by fungi enthusiast Liz Frost , who spotted the tiny, tongue-shaped organism while exploring the ancient woodland landscape. The fungus, first identified in Spain nearly two decades ago, is known for its distinctive bluish-green base and delicate structure. Initially, six fruiting bodies were observed, with more discovered the following day. New Delhi: India’s campaign against plastic pollution has gained renewed momentum with expanded enforcement drives and nationwide awareness initiatives. However, persistent gaps in compliance and inconsistencies in data reporting continue to hinder the full impact of the government’s policy framework. Responding to a parliamentary question, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh , informed the Lok Sabha that India generates around 40 lakh tonnes of plastic waste annually , a figure that has remained largely unchanged between 2020 and 2023. Faridkot, Punjab:  In a tragic incident from Faridkot district, two farmer brothers reportedly died by suicide after being unable to cope with mounting debt and repeated crop losses. The incident took place on Monday morning near a railway track close to a village, where the brothers allegedly jumped in front of a moving train. The deceased have been identified as Jaskaran Singh (38) and his younger brother Jaswinder Singh (34), residents of Harinau village. According to locals, the two were deeply distressed over financial burdens. Born after six sisters in their family, the brothers were the only sons of their parents and carried the responsibility of supporting the household. The family owned less than one acre of land and depended largely on leased farmland for cultivation. Over the years, repeated crop failures and expenses related to their sisters’ marriages had pushed the family into heavy debt, estimated at around ₹50 lakh. Delhi:  At around 10 AM on Shaheed Diwas, people gathered in Delhi to pay tribute to Bhagat Singh. Students, local residents, and officials were seen placing flowers and standing in silence. Sahibganj News: Continuous storms and rainfall over the past two days have severely impacted farmers across the district. While mango and litchi crops saw slight benefits, the weather proved disastrous for wheat, gram, lentil, pea, mustard, and maize cultivation. Strong winds have damaged crops across hundreds of acres, with wheat and maize fields flattened in many areas. Farmers have been visiting their fields since morning, only to return disheartened as standing crops lie completely collapsed. With their primary source of income destroyed, farmers now fear an economic crisis and are demanding compensation from authorities. The situation is particularly alarming in Sahibganj and Rajmahal blocks, especially in diara regions, where large-scale crop losses have been reported.

Mangan, Sikkim:  A mild earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck Mangan in Sikkim on Saturday evening, according to data released by the National Centre for Seismology. The tremor occurred at 8:46 PM IST at a depth of 14 kilometres, with its epicentre located in North Sikkim, a region known for frequent seismic activity. There were no immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life, officials said. Residents in parts of the district experienced brief shaking, though the impact appeared limited. Local authorities stated that the situation remained normal and under close watch. Sikkim falls within a high seismic risk zone along the Himalayan belt, making such tremors relatively common. Experts note that while the intensity was low, continued monitoring is essential, as minor earthquakes can sometimes be followed by aftershocks.

Howrah: A major fire broke out at a tyre manufacturing godown in the Pakuriya area of Salap along National Highway 16 in Howrah on Sunday, triggering a large-scale firefighting operation. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site as flames quickly spread across the godown, causing panic among locals and commuters on the busy highway. Two fire tenders from the Howrah Fire Station were immediately deployed to the spot to control the blaze. Personnel from the Nibra Traffic Guard and Domjur Police Station also joined the operation to manage traffic and assist emergency responders. Officials confirmed that a crane parked near the godown along NH-16 was completely gutted in the fire.
